Boarding Policies
Vaccination Requirements
Cats under the age of 10 must be up to date on their distemper/upper respiratory vaccine (FVRCP) to be eligible for boarding. If this vaccine is overdue and needs boosting, it must occur at least 7 days prior to check in.
To comply with county and state regulations, all cats 4 months of age and over must be up to date on their rabies vaccine to be eligible for boarding. If this vaccine is overdue and needs boosting, it must occur at least 7 days prior to check in.
Physical Examination Requirements
Cats must have a physical exam with one of our clinic’s veterinarians within the following timeframes to be eligible for boarding:
| Cat's Age | Wellness Examination |
|---|---|
| Under 10 Years Old | Within the last 12 months |
| 10–14 Years Old | Within the last 6 months |
| 15+ Years Old | Within the last 3 months |
| Diabetic/Oncology Care Cats | Within the last 3 months and/or each time they board* |
*Cats with known significant medical issues such as diabetes or cancer may require a physical examination prior to every boarding stay.
Health Requirements for the Safety of Your Cats and Others
All boarding cats receive a pre-boarding check-in by a technician to assure there are no fleas or obvious signs of illness (there is no charge for the pre-boarding check in).
Flea Control
If your cat arrives with evidence of fleas, they must receive a dose of Revolution before entering the townhouse area (effective for 3–4 weeks). Be sure to indicate on your boarding check-in form if you have recently applied Advantage, Frontline, Revolution, or any flea product.
Medications
We will gladly administer medications for an additional fee if your cat needs them while boarding. Medications must arrive in their original containers.
Food Options/Special Diets
The following foods (both canned and dry) are available in our boarding facilities. If you have a preference, please be sure to indicate that on your boarding check-in form. To avoid gastrointestinal irritation, we do recommend that you bring your cat’s regular food from home.
| Dave's Pet Food (all canned) | Purina ProPlan (all canned) | Hill's Science Diet (dry) |
|---|---|---|
| Chicken pate Tuna in gravy Turkey pate Tuna & Chicken in gravy Gobblicious Gourmet pate Shredded chicken in gravy |
Chicken & Rice in gravy Tuna & Rice in gravy Salmon & Rice in gravy |
Adult Chicken |
If your cat requires a special diet not available in our boarding facility, you must provide the food at check-in. If you want to purchase it in our retail store, please call ahead to make sure we have the food in stock. We will send home any extras at checkout.
Personal Belongings
Please be sure to clearly label your carrier and any personal items you leave with your cat. While we understand your desire for your cat to have comfort items from home, please be aware these occasionally get lost, especially if laundering is required. We cannot be held responsible for lost or damaged items. We encourage you to leave things of high sentimental or monetary value at home.
If your cat develops a problem of medical concern while boarding
We work to create a feline-friendly, safe, and comfortable boarding facility. However, being away from home is stressful for cats, and some boarders may develop symptoms related to this. These can include digestive upset, decreased appetite, sneezing and/or runny eyes, and sometimes worsening of pre-existing health conditions.
Cats in boarding facilities may also be exposed to infectious diseases. While vaccines protect cats from many serious viral infections, other contagious illnesses can still circulate in facilities where multiple cats are housed. We do follow stringent hygiene practices and your cat(s) will never have direct contact with another boarding or hospitalized cat.
Our required pre-boarding examination will help determine whether your cat may be at increased risk for stress-related concerns or may be more susceptible to acquiring a contagious illness while boarding.
With the above considerations, we do require your consent to perform medical evaluations and treatment, if needed, while your cat is boarding at Cats Exclusive. Common interventions include: use of appetite stimulants or anti-nausea medication, administration of stool softeners/lubricants, and specialized feeding protocols. If your cat develops a health concern while boarding, they will be assessed by the nursing/doctor team and we will make every attempt to reach you or your local emergency contact. In the event of a medical emergency, a staff veterinarian will provide immediate treatment as needed while we work to contact you. Please be aware you are responsible for the costs of these services, which can include transfer to an emergency veterinary facility if medically necessary.
Cancellation/Reservation Policy
If you are a first-time boarder, a 100% deposit is required at check in. No deposit is required for repeat boarders. If you need to cancel your reservation, we would appreciate as much advance notice as possible. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur a cancellation fee.
