When to Call the Doctor

When a cat is exhibiting symptoms such as extreme lethargy, excessive diarrhea or has an open wound that will not heal, it is pretty obvious it’s time to call the doctor. But sometimes the signs are more subtle. Following are some important things to consider in making a decision about whether or not you should have a veterinarian examine your cat.

Follow your intuition: (You know your cat better than anyone else!)
At Cats Exclusive, we encourage our clients to listen to and follow their intuition. If you think something isn’t right with your cat, it probably isn’t --- much better to error on the side of being overly cautious than not cautious enough. Illnesses caught early generally respond to therapy better.

Signs and symptoms warranting a call to us and a possible doctor appointment:
Here are some signs and symptoms to watch for that could mean your cat has a medical problem that needs attention. Keep in mind, it is impossible for any list to be all inclusive. And since cats can’t talk, this is truly where your intuitive sense and careful observation can help.

Kittens

IS YOUR CAT . . . ? ? ? ? ?

Sleeping more than usual or in an unusual location?
Vocalizing more or less than usual?
Less active than normal?
Consistently more active than normal and over 7 years old?
Eating more or less than normal?
Acting unusual – hiding? clingy? agitated?
Vomiting more than usual?
Straining when urinating?
Urinating outside of litter box or with increased frequency?
Having diarrhea or constipation?
More sensitive or tender to being touched in any specific area?
Exhibiting unusual odor? (mouth, ears or from anywhere?)
