Environmental Practices

EnviroStarsGreen Business Shoreline

At Cats Exclusive, we have been “thinking green” for some time.

When we built our current facility in 2000 we made sure all the materials used were the most environmentally friendly ones available at the time.
These included installing natural forbo linoleum floors, exterior insulated heating ducts, and low volume plumbing, as well as literally wrapping our building beneath the exterior for energy efficiency. Making sure a resource is energy efficient and environmentally safe is an issue we take very seriously.

From the paper products, medical equipment, litter and cleaning supplies we use to our intensive recycling practices, company-wide we are always on the lookout for ways to decrease our energy usage, decrease our waste, and increase our use of environmentally friendly products.

Three years ago, we embarked upon a company-wide audit of all of our supplies, our energy usage and our practices of handling waste. At the time, we made significant changes to become even greener than before and have continued to do annual audits and set green goals ever since. In our retail store (and company wide), we make an effort to order from local businesses whenever possible and research our products extensively to ensure they are not only safe for your cat but also for the environment.

In March of 2009, we became a King County EnviroStars certified business, a nationally recognized award for environmental stewardship and reducing hazardous waste. We are currently certified as a 5 star business (the highest possible). We are also certified with Shoreline Chamber of Commerce Green Business Program. We are currently in the process of making changes in our landscape to become a certified wildlife habitat to attract more wildlife to our property and improve our water conservation. We hope to accomplish this by spring 2013.

Rest assured, when you utilize the services at Cats Exclusive, you are supporting a business committed to green practices that benefit the earth, you and your cat(s).
